

Anniston- Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen Crowder Stephens, 78, of Anniston, will be at 11 A.M. on Saturday October 6, 2012, at Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston with Dr. W. Mack Amis officiating and Gray Brown-Service in charge of arrangements. There will be a visitation for family and friends preceding the service at 10 A.M. in the same location.
Mrs. Stephens went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday October 3rd, 2012. She was born in LaGrange, Georgia on February 3rd, 1934. Mrs. Stephens resided the majority of her childhood in Valley, Alabama, specifically residing in Langdale.
She attended school at Valley High School, Anniston Memorial School of Nursing, and the University of Alabama School of Nursing. She was a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from 1975 until her retirement in 2010. The majority of those years were spent in Anniston working with Dr. Gerald Woodruff Jr.
Mrs. Stephens was an active member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church where she attended the Everette Sunday School class. She was an enthusiastic member of the coffee corner at church for the casual services. Mrs. Stephens taught a children’s Sunday school class for a number of years.
She spent 6 years living in Auburn, Alabama with her family where she served as the president of the Newcomer Club at Auburn University. She was the president of the auxiliary to the Anniston Jaycees “Jayceettes”,and was voted outstanding Jayceette for the state of Alabama.
Mrs. Stephens was involved in her Community Homeowners Association where she was a board member. She also loved visiting those in need nearby at NHC and the NHC Place. She also worked with the Presbyterian Church Cub Scouts Group for a number of years.
Survivors include her sons Julian Stephens III and H. Scott Stephens, daughter in law Gina Stephens, grandson Miller Stephens, grandson Kole Stephens, and her brother Bobby Crowder.
Mrs. Stephens is preceded in death by her loving husband Julian Stephens Jr. of Anniston, parents Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Crowder, and her brother Charles Crowder.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Andrews, Eric Averette, Bobby Crowder, Larry Dempsey, Don Heath, Bobby Jack McElroy, Robert E. Moore, David Phillips, Butch Taylor, Ralph White and the members of the Everette Sunday School Class.
