Herman O. Pugh, 84, of Eastaboga, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2011, surrounded by his family and pastor. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2011 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Bro. James Abernathy, Rev. John Roberson and David Talley presiding. Burial will be at Edgemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 31 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
Herman was born in Calhoun County, AL on October 14, 1926 to Raymond and Gertrude Goodwin Pugh. Mr. Pugh lived his entire life in the city of Anniston until 10 years ago when he moved to Eastaboga. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1949. His service during WWII was in the South Pacific and his last years of service were aboard the USS President Jackson. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot as a management analyst after 30 years.
Mr. Pugh is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Youngblood Pugh; his daughter, Lynne (George) Williams of Eastaboga; three sons, David (Mary Anne) Pugh of Pell City, Randy Pugh of Alexandria and Tommy (Rhonda) Pugh of Coldwater. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kelly (Joey) Baker, Kristi Gardner, Amber (Shane) Bowers, Rachel (Zach) Davis, Dylan Pugh, Sarah Pugh, Savanna Williams and Rebekah Williams; six great-grandchildren, Alissa Wood, Caleb Bowers, Noah Gardner, Kadin Gardner, Jacob Bowers and Logan Baker; two sisters, Lillian Williams of Cullman and Corrine (John) Taylor of Theodore; six nieces and six nephews.
Mr. Pugh was preceded in death by baby daughter, Cheryl Rebecca (Sherrie) Pugh; his parents, Raymond and Gertrude Pugh and three brothers, Jack, Larry and Donald Pugh.
Mr. Pugh was a member of First Congregational Full Gospel Church of Anniston, where he was an Elder, Deacon, Choir member and soloist. His beautiful bass voice and smile will always be remembered. He was dearly loved by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Pugh, Joey Baker, Shane Bowers, Zach Davis, Bryan Renforth, Tony Abernathy, Dennis Parrent and David Holderfield. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons and the Men’s Sunday School Class of his church.
The family would like to thank Wiregrass Hospice employees Chasity, Jennifer and “Miss Sue” for their excellent care during his final days. We would also like to thank Stringfellow Hospital ICU, PCU and 3rd floor E. Staff for their love and care of “Papaw”.
