
Funeral services for James Leo Daugherty, 81, of Anniston, will be 1 pm Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Rev. Mike Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Paran Baptist Cemetery in Cleburne County. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 – 1 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Daugherty died Wednesday at NHC.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Hunt Daugherty, four daughters, Becky Wheeler (Jeff), Elaine Hubbard (Robin), Brenda Turberville and Wanda Mosley, four step daughters, Mary Jewell Gentry (Larry), Vivian Eargle, Kathy Henderson and Belinda Allinder, two step sons, Lewis Whitlock (Robin) and Manuel Whitlock, twenty-five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, four sisters, Quida Mixon of Silas, AL, Thelma Powell of Mobile, AL, Lola Martin of Meridian, MS and Eunice Booker of Jackson, MS.
Mr. Daugherty is preceded in death by his infant son, James Michael Daugherty, parents, Rev. Joseph and Lola Lee Daugherty, six brothers, Harold, Earl, Claude, Carmon, Ray and Ren, three sisters, Mildred Dent, Nolie Evans and Lula Frey.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Mr. Daugherty was a native of Choctaw County and a resident of Anniston for the past 42 years. He was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Daugherty retired from Smith Brothers and was a U.S. army veteran where he served during the Korean Conflict. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at NHC.
