Jimmy Lee Martin Jr.

He was born on December 24, 1930 in Anniston , Alabama where he was a lifelong resident. After serving his country, in the Korean War, he worked at Union Foundry and US Pipe. Later, he worked at Anniston Army Depot as an artillery repairman where he retired after 37 yrs at the age of 81.

Jimmy was an avid birdwatcher and spent his time feeding the birds and making sure there was fresh water in their bird baths. He also enjoyed whittling his own walking sticks. Everyone that knew him was familiar with his unique walking sticks. He took one of them everywhere he went. Watching western movies and western television shows was also a favorite pastime of his. He was known, above all, for his love of candy bars, cakes, chips, and soft drinks. He loved his family and enjoyed the times they would come to visit.

He is survived by his wife of 71 yrs, Margaret Martin; his daughters Donna May (Tom), and Linda Martin-Allsup; his grandchildren, Jennifer Peebles, Emily Mundy, Amber Smith, and Shannon May; his great-grandchildren , Maggie Carlile (Macain), Morgan Contris (Cole), Noah Preston, Grayson Mundy, Adalyn Mundy, Laurelyn Mundy, Freeman Mundy, Trenton Lott, Avery Smith, Colton Parten, and Maycee Parten; and his great-great-grandchild Mary Murphy Carlile.

He was preceded in death by his parents James L. Martin, Sr. and Vera Chastain-Martin; his sister Betty Jane Daugherty; and his grandsons Jeremy Dan Preston and Jack Dylan Allsup.

Visitation will be held at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary on August 2, 2026 at 1:00 for friends and family followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00. The service will be officiated by Dr. Roland Brown followed by Military Honors at Forest lawn Garden Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tom May, Charles Daugherty, Jr. (Chuck), Greg Daugherty (Rusty), Noah Preston, Mark Poor, Nick Mundy, Daniel Huckaby, and Josh Ervin.

Honorary pallbearers Macain Carlile, Grayson Mundy, Cole Contris, and Freeman Mundy.

The family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Golden Springs Baptist Church.
