Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Donald L. Sills, Pastor of the First Baptist Church at McClellan officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home from 1 until 2:00 pm.
Laura was born on March 15, 1929 in Etowah County, Alabama to Marvin and Vada Cox. Known most of her life as “Frances”, she was educated in Calhoun County schools graduating from Oxford High School with the class of 1949.
Laura is survived by her husband of 34 years, William I. “Bill” Giddens; son, Joseph Glen Sears (Resa) of Coldwater; her twin daughters, Anita Tipps (Tom) and Vikki Sears and fiancé Paul Zielinski of St. Petersburg, FL; 5 step children, Linda Gritsch (Gunter), Douglas Giddens, William L. Giddens, Rebecca McNeal (Anthony) and Deborah Webb; other survivors include grandchildren, Morgan Doss (Matt) of Marietta, GA and Matthew Glen Sears of Newnan, GA; special niece, Brenda Cifelli; 8 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; and many Cox family cousins.
Laura was actively involved in her church work at Wayside Baptist Church in the 50’s and 60’s and remained a member of Parker Memorial Baptist in her retirement years. She was also much involved with Girl Scouts and in the 90’s was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at RMC. Later she was active with a Ladies Bridge Club, a senior group known as the “Chicken Club”. She loved ballroom dancing, Southern Gospel music, cooking, home decoration, Florida beaches and women’s fashions.
In her retirement years she and her husband Bill traveled extensively worldwide by cruise ship and tour bus from St. Petersburg, Russia to Beijing, China, from Greenland to the Panama Canal, throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska and major attraction in the US.
Laura was a very special person to all those who knew her and will be sorely missed.
