

Anniston – Memorial services for Mr. Lewis S. Taylor, 83, of Anniston will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Lipscomb officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12p.m.- until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Taylor passed away November 29, 2013 at RMC in Anniston.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, Jeffrey D. Taylor and wife Sharon Lipscomb; grandson, Christopher Brent Taylor and wife Pepper; great-grandchildren, Christopher Logan Taylor, and Lauren Grace Taylor; brother, Jerry Ralph Taylor and wife Jean; sister, Nellie Shaddix and husband Johnny; close compassionate companion, Bobbie Ficklen; close friends and caregivers, Lloyd and Betty Brimer, and Martha Barlow.
Mr. Taylor retired from law enforcement as a Lieutenant with the Anniston Police Department and the Fraternal Order of Police after 21 years of service. During that time he was Shift Commander over the security at the Anniston Airport, the Anniston City jail, and over the Correctional division.
When he was 17 years old he entered the United States Navy. He began active service on July 15, 1948 and served on several vessels and stations including, NTC, San Diego, California; Naval Supply Center, Pearl Harbor; and was the T.H. Port Director, at T.H. U.S. Naval Receiving Station Seattle Washington. He served on the USS LST 857, on June 26, 1950 and received an Honorable Discharge as a 1st class Seaman.
He was a Free and Accepted 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Zamora Shriner of the Ancient Arabic Order. He finished and played basketball at Saks High School on an old graveled court. His team went to the state playoffs and finished in 2nd place. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fishing, boating, and camping while traveling extensively over the United States.
Pallbearers will be his Grandson, Christopher Brent Taylor and Great Grandchildren, Christopher Logan Taylor and Lauren Grace Taylor.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews, Anniston Police Dept. Fraternal Order of Police, and free and Accepted Scottish Rite Masons and Zamora Shriners.
Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Dolly Mae Abbott Taylor; set of twin sons, and a wife of 11 years, Minnie Irene Adams Taylor; parents, James A. Taylor and Sally Exer Mintz Taylor; brothers, James Douglas Taylor, Alton Chester Taylor, and Fairley Taylor; sisters, Vera Curry, Exa Bradley, Lenora Hughes and Maudelle Amberson.
