

Luther M. Owen Jr.,(Luke) passed away peacefully January 18, 2024, following a brief illness. Luke was born March 2, 1944, in Anniston, Al. He was a 1962 graduate of AHS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served prior to his graduation from Auburn University in 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Marvin, Sr., and Josephine Owen, his sisters, Rosa Hobbs, and Betty Sprayberry, his brother in law, Herman Sprayberry, and his in laws, Denzil and Blanche Williams. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Williams, his daughter Laryn Morhard and her husband, Chris, his granddaughters, Della-Mae and Mavis, His brother and sister in law, Clark and Carolyn Owen, and brother in law Clyde Hobbs, and many much loved nieces and nephews. He was recently blessed to connect with another daughter, Rhonda Stover, and granddaughter, Emily Gehlman, and her husband Nick. Luke was employed at Ft. McClellan until his retirement in 2002. He served as Wildlife Biologist and Environmental manager over 45,679 acres. He received many commendations in addition to the Commander’s award for Civilian Service for managing and protecting the fort’s natural resources. He was also awarded the W.Kelly Mosley Award for his work in forestry, wildlife, and environmental resources. In addition to his love for the great outdoors, he loved the One who created them. He was loyal and faithful to his family, friends, his and country, and his Auburn Tigers . A celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 28, 2024, between 2:00 and 4:00 PM at 1001 Kingsway Drive, Anniston, Al 36207. Please bring a memory of a special time you shared with Luke. We will open them and read them on what would have been his 80th birthday March 2, 2024.
