Lydia Salers Shaw was born July 12, 1926, in Dossville, Mississippi. She passed away on August 10, 2022, at her home in Anniston at the age of 96. She was one of fourteen siblings. When she was 14 years old, her family moved back home to Delta, Alabama where she lived until she was 18 years old. She went to work at the cotton mill in Blue Mountain when she was 16 years old. It was there that she met her husband, Roy. They were married in 1947 and were together until his death in 1991. Together they had four children.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her sisters, Verdie Nelson and Glenda Sue Owens, her daughter Sharon Jane Scoggins and her husband, Michael, sons Ricky Lee Shaw and Tommy Shaw and his wife, Jeri, and three grandsons, Tommy Scoggins, Jason Shaw and his wife, Nicole, and Christopher Shaw. Also surviving her are four great grandchildren, Matthew Scoggins, Heather Scoggins, Jason Shaw Jr., and Grayson Shaw, and four great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Shaw is preceded in death by her parents, Stella Davidson Salers and Otis Russell Salers, her husband, Leroy Shaw, her son, Michael Roy Shaw, two grandchildren, Heather Leann Shaw and George Thomas Scoggins, and a great grandson, Michael Todd Scoggins. She is also preceded in death by eleven of her siblings.
Mrs. Shaw was known as ‘Momma’ to her children and ‘Mawmaw’ to her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, tending her chickens, fishing, and spending time on her front porch. She was a collector of cookbooks and spent hours at a time reading them and marking new recipes to try. She enjoyed baking cakes, especially pound cakes and coconut cakes, which were her favorites. She was a Christian and a member of Harvest Church of God. She loved her family, and she will be missed greatly. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could wish for.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston with the funeral service immediately following. Pastor Jerry Irwin will officiate. Burial will follow at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Delta, Alabama. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.
