Margie B Thomas

Anniston – Margie Brown Thomas, age 80, of Anniston, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on the afternoon of February 6th , 2018. Her husband, children and several grandchildren were by her side.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Chapel Hill Funeral home with Rev. Neal Hodo and Rev. Chris Thomas officiating with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday, February 9, 2018 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Stefan Dorsey, Cain Harbin, David Ryan Dorsey, Wade Thomas, Justin Long, and Adam Hardy.

Born Margie Mae Brown, on May 16th , 1937, to Luther and Nannie Wade Brown, Mrs. Thomas was the youngest of six children growing up on her parent’s farm in Geraldine, Alabama. She attended Geraldine High School. She was a cheerleader and excelled in public speaking, winning several regional competitions.

After high school, she took employment with a mortgage company in Fort Payne. While shopping at the local A&P, she met a young electrician’s apprentice. She and Carlton M. Thomas married a year later, on August 16th, 1957, in Trenton, Georgia, and began making a home and family.

Mr. Thomas worked as an electrician, a career which required that he work at sites around the Southeast while Mrs. Thomas worked to create a home for their four children. In 1973, the family moved to the Saks community near Anniston, Alabama, to the home where they would live the next forty-five years.

One need only view the bookcases in the kitchen of her home, displaying over one hundred pictures of children and grandchildren, to understand the full measure of her life. She was happiest being a loving wife, nurturing mother and doting grandmother. Her children say that for her, family was everything.

The Thomas house was the neighborhood gathering spot and Mrs. Thomas opened her home to her children’s friends. When the grandchildren arrived, her greatest joy was the endless summers around the backyard pool.

Mrs. Thomas was an avid reader and instilled that love of reading in her children and grandchildren. She loved history and genealogy. She also shared her husband’s love for Alabama football and motorhomes. If the Thomas’s weren’t home with the grandchildren, they were at a Crimson Tide game or a state park and probably had a grandchild or two with them.

Mrs. Thomas is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Nannie Wade Brown, and Guy and Ruth Thomas; daughter, Margie Lisa Thomas; and many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Carlton M. Thomas; daughters, Beverly Thomas Dorsey, and Beth Thomas Long; sons, Bruce C. Thomas, and Brent C. Thomas; sister, Barbara Brown Stevens; grandchildren, Kera Dorsey, Stefan (Desiree) Dorsey, David Ryan (Kirstin) Dorsey, Cain (Lia) Harbin, Leah (Adam) Hardy, Justin Long, Wade Thomas, Ashley (Casey) Barker, and Michelle Thomas; and great-grandchild, Amelia Dorsey.
