Mary Evelyn Whittington

Funeral services for Mary Evelyn Whittington, 91, of Oxford, will be 1 pm Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Meadow Brook Baptist Church with Rev. Trull Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm at the church. Mrs. Whittington died Monday at her residence.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Sheets and Mary Ann Owens (Mitchell); two sons, Ray Whittington (Jody) and Joe Whittington (Donna); four grandchildren, Kent Bryant (Kara), Marcus Bryant, Blake Sheets and Matt Whittington; three great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Theadway; brother, Joe Cole, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Whittington is preceded in death by her husband, Pershing “Paul” Whittington; daughter, Norma Kirkes and eight siblings.

Mrs. Whittington was a lifelong resident of Alabama. She lived most of her life in the Anniston, Oxford area. Mrs. Whittington was a long time member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where she was active in the church choir and taught Sunday School. She was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels
