Melville Miller "Mel" Buchanan Jr.

Celebration of Life service for Melville Miller “Mel” Buchanan Jr., 73, will be 3:00 pm, Friday May 21, 2021, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time.

Mr. Buchanan passed away on May 17, 2021 at Clay County Healthcare. He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Jones (Robert); son Melville “Mel” Buchanan III; former wife and lifelong friend, Cecelia Marie Trammell; sisters, Judy Buchanan, Glenda Brown (Wayne), June Ingram, and Kathy Buchanan; brother, John William “Buck” Buchanan (Karen); grandchildren, Madison Abigail Buchanan, Jackson Miller Buchanan, Ansley Marie Jones, Robert Hayden Jones, and Benjamin Garrett Jones.

Mr. Buchanan is preceded in death by parents, Melville Buchanan Sr. and Lillian Buchanan; brother, Donald Buchanan.

Mr. Buchanan loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren. He had a strong belief in getting a good education and tried to instill that in his family. He enjoyed listening to music, going fishing and traveling. Mr. Buchanan had a great sense of humor and was very witty. He will be greatly missed.
