M. Harris Mynatt of LaGrange, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mollie Mynatt and son-in-law Floyd Moser. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Goldie Kelley Mynatt, along with his two daughters, Pamela Mynatt Moser of Dalton, Georgia and Kelley Mynatt Mitchell and son-in-law Samuel P. Mitchell III of LaGrange, Georgia, grandchildren Morgan Mitchell Sanchez (Michael), Nicholas Moser and his niece Nancy Webb Walker (Sherold).
Harris was the first Dean of Students of Dalton College in Dalton, Georgia. He was a part of the small administrative staff hired before any buildings were constructed. The college’s doors opened in 1967. He was also an Associate Professor of Education at the college. Following his retirement from Dalton College after seventeen years, he served as the State of Georgia Coordinator for the Student and Teacher Achievement Recognition Program (STAR).
As a native of Weaver, Alabama he graduated from Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville State College and the University of Alabama. Harris was a veteran of the United States Army. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Jacksonville High School faculty along with being a counselor at Southwest DeKalb High School in Decatur, Georgia and Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia plus principal of Hancock County High School.
There will be a graveside service at Highland Cemetery 829 E. 10th Street, in Anniston, 36207 on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 10:00am.
