Ricky is survived by his sons Joe Nelson (Meg) and Bruce Nelson (Tara); sisters Kathy Lerma and Montez Chilton; granddaughter Victoria Nelson; great grandchildren Kristopher Nelson, Chloe Nelson, and Bryson Kays; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents Joe & Louise Nelson; wife Mary Delane Nelson; and his brother Butch Sherbett.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary, 1329 Wilmer Ave, Anniston. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Graveside service will follow at Forestlawn Gardens.
Ricky Joe Nelson was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who spent his life being the rock and the center point for his family. He lived by a pure, old-school code and was deeply passionate about hunting, fishing and working the dirt through farming. He leaves behind an unbroken lineage of strength and devotion that will never fade, and he is now at absolute peace, resting forever in his eternal Shady Grove.
