

Blountsville – Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Hewitt, age 72, will be Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, funeral service to follow. Graveside service will be Friday at North Creek Cemetery in Florala, Al at 1pm.
Mr. Hewitt passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Gadsden RMC.
Mr. Hewitt is survived by his wife, Geneva; daughters, Silvia Stoelzer, Melinda Strasburg; sons, Robert Jr., Terry, and Donald Hewitt; step-sons, Greg, Phillip, and Perry Bailey; many grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Mr. Hewitt was born in Gouvernor, NY, after graduation he enlisted in the Army in 1956 as a Military Police Corps, he served two tours in Vietnam and served in many positions as a Military Police SGT, Platoon leader, and training SGT at Fort Gordon, Ga and Fort McClellan, Al. Mr. Hewitt served two tours as an advisor for the military. He received several awards like: Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart, Vietnames Wound Medal, and Cross of Gallantry. Since retirement in 1978 bob has worked with and for veterans in most every area to help them to train and obtain work. Mr. Hewitt has held several positions like DVOP (78-80), Governors Private Industry Council (80-83), he served on the Governors Council to assisted with the employment of veterans of both congressional representatives as well as local and state representatives, Federal Government as a printing and publication officer (83), and after reaching the rank of a GS-11 in 1999 he retired to take care of his wife.
Mr. Hewitt is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lena Hewitt; grandparents, Marvin and Mary Hewitt, Arthur and Zelia Lagueux; two former wives; sister, Marian Flanagan; brothers, Richard, and Ronald Hewitt.
