Robert “David” Young, 79, of Anniston, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
David was born on September 28, 1946, in Anniston, Alabama to Mary Lucille Robinson and Robison “Bob” Young. He grew up in the Heflin area and was known throughout his life for his servant’s heart, quiet strength, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ that guided every step of his journey.
From a young age, David embodied both service and leadership. After losing his father early in life, he stepped into the role of guiding and supporting his family as the eldest of three children. In 1967, at age 20, David was drafted into the United States Army, where he continued his lifelong call to serve. He earned the Purple Heart and, for his heroism in ground combat, was awarded the Bronze Star. After returning home, David dedicated the rest of his life to serving his family and his community.
David was a man whose character shone through both his words and his actions. David loved and knew Jesus. He believed deeply in hard work, integrity, and faithfulness, and he lived out those values every day. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing words of encouragement, or simply being a quiet, listening ear, David consistently put others before himself and never sought recognition. His family says they will forever be grateful for the steady comfort of his presence, especially in those moments when all they needed was someone to listen.
David was married to his best friend and partner in all things, Deborah “Debbie” Young, for 30 years. David and Debbie prayed, served, and led their businesses together each and every day. David was especially proud of his four children, two grandchildren, and their much-loved dog, Chloe, who was never far from her best friend (or a long nap in his lap). His dedication, dependability, and hands-on leadership helped build a legacy that continues through his family today.
Outside of work, David enjoyed simple joys that allowed him to be with those he loved—spending time on Lake Wedowee (even being the one to teach the whole family to ski), going to Gospel music “singings” (including hosting quite a few to benefit the Saks community), following Alabama football, and most of all, attending any and every event that was special to or highlighted the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Those moments were so important and special to him. David attended Saks First Baptist Church and was a faithful member of his Sunday School Class. David is proceeded in death by his parents, Mary Lucille Robinson and Robison “Bob” Young, and his brother, Samson “Sam” Young. Though he experienced deep loss throughout his life, he always carried their memories with him, honoring them through the way he lived—with strength, compassion, and grace.
David is survived by his sister, Sayra (Gary) Webb; loving wife of 30 years, Deborah “Debbie” Young, and four children; Robert David (Sandy) Young, Joseph Edward “Joey” (Jennifer) Young, Eric (Samantha) Wolf, and Liz (Arnab Ghosal) Young; and two grandchildren, Joseph Edward “Jey” Young and Charlotte “Lottie” Wolf.
The family will receive friends at Saks First Baptist Church, 4723 Saks Road, Anniston, Alabama on Wednesday, November 26th at 12 PM. A service to celebrate David’s life will begin at 1 PM. Graveside service, with military honors, will follow at Chulafinnee United Methodist Church, 1834 Co Rd 8, Heflin, AL.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions may be given in his memory to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (checks may be mailed to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
David’s legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the impact of his businesses on the Saks community, and the countless people he touched with his steady presence and quiet kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” – Matthew 25:23
