Miss Ruth McKerley was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 7th 2018 to fill an opening in His heavenly choir. Ruth is survived by her sisters and caregivers, Miss Frances McKerley and Miss Sarah McKerley, both of Wellington and her brother David McKerley and wife Bonnie of Alexandria.
Ruth was a devoted aunt to her nephews, Michael and Matthew McKerley; niece, Karla McKerley Battles. She always gave them a whole lot of love along with her niece-in-law, Erin Geier (Michael) and Karla Coronado McKerley (Matt) and a nephew-in-law, Darrell J. Battles (Karla).
Although her nieces and nephews were referred to as her outlaws, their children were her angels. Love doesn’t seem to encompass how she felt for them but it’s the closest we will come to understanding it, this side of heaven. They are, in birth order, Lainey Battles, KadeMica David Battles, Nadja McKerley-Geier, Raphael McKerley-Geier, Alyvia Battles, Luca McKerley, Ione McKerley-Geier, Isabella McKerley and Colm McKerley-Geier.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Eula Mae Scott McKerley, her sister Shirley Ann McKerley and her brother Charles McKerley. Ruth was a lifelong active member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Wellington where she loved to sing in the choir and help anywhere she could. She also loved flowers and could make anything grow even when you thought it was already dead. She was kind, patient and will be sincerely missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank Amedysis Home Health for assisting in allowing her final days to be at home and the nursing staff at Riverview Regional CCU for making her home going comfortable and peaceful.
Funeral services for Miss McKerley will be Sunday, February 11th, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at Mt. View Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Connell and Rev. Rick Foote officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, 6-8 p.m. at Gray Brown Service Mortuary. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael McKerley, Matthew McKerley, Darrell J. Battles, KadeMica Battles, Clyde Fondren and Larry Glenn Fondren.
