

Funeral service for Ruth F. Simmons, 98, of Anniston will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2011, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Private burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Mrs. Simmons died Tuesday at RMC.
Survivors include children, Robert C. Simmons III and wife, Vickie of Anniston, Ruth Elizabeth Simmons Roten and husband, Rob of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren, Robert C. Simmons IV and wife, Lynda, John W. Simmons and wife, Akili, Elizabeth Roten, Olivia Simmons, Robyn Roten; great-grandchildren, Paul Simmons, David Simmons, Korah Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by husband, Dr. Robert C. Simmons, Jr.; parents, George and Jane Fitch; grandchild, Eva Sabrina Simmons; brothers, Oren Fitch and Glynton Fitch and her infant child.
Pallbearers will be the Ruth Sunday School Class of Parker Memorial Baptist Church.
Mrs. Simmons was a native of Mobile and lived in Anniston for most of her married life. She was a graduate of Murphy High School in Mobile and the University of North Alabama in Florence. She was a public school teacher where she taught in the Mobile and Memphis area schools and was the manager of her husband’s medical office for many years. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist church and a teacher of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was on the Calhoun County Medical Alliance where she served two terms as president. She also served two terms as president of the Cottaquilla Council for Girl Scouts and was a life time member of the Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Simmons was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
