

Velma Doris Roper Patty, born July 25, 1925 in Websters Chapel, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2017 in Wetumpka, Alabama. Mrs. Patty lived most of her life in Anniston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Patty, her son, Charles E. Patty, Jr., her parents, Lemuel F. Roper and Lottie Day Roper, her sister Mary Lewis and her brother James F. Roper.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Huckabee (Len) of Anniston and her son, William F. Patty (Janet) of Wetumpka. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kira D. Patty, Eric B. Patty, Charles E. Patty III, William F. Patty III, Benjamin Robert Patty, and Jack Roper Patty; and two great-grandchildren, Eric Patty, Jr. and Sophia Delonge-Patty.
Mrs. Patty worked for over forty years in banking at Anniston National Bank/First Alabama Bank. She held the position of vice-president of the bank when she retired in 1990. Mrs. Patty was a lifelong Christian. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and Fairview Heights-Northside Baptist Church where in the past she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Patty also served in volunteer positions with the American Red Cross as a nurses’ aide during World War II and later as a local board member. She also volunteered at Stringfellow Hospital and was a member of the Altrusa Club.
Visitation will be at Gray Brown Service Mortuary on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 30, 2017 at 10:30a.m. at Gray Brown Service Mortuary with the Rev. Scotty Moore and George Smitherman officiating. A graveside service will follow at Forestlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Patty’s grandsons and great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
