Ramon Wayne Roe, known as Wayne, passed away peacefully at his home under hospice care on the early morning of January 6, 2026, at the age of 90. He was the son of the late Raymond J. Roe and Beatrice Canada Roe, natives of Cherokee County, Alabama. The family moved to Anniston in the late 1940s, where Wayne had lived since.
Wayne graduated from Anniston High School in 1953. After graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps at Cherry Point, North Carolina. He then began a 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service at the Anniston post office. After his retirement he enjoyed following the dog races, cultivating his rose garden, and traveling with his “best buddy” Sarah Webb. He was also the primary caretaker for his parents, seeing to their needs until their deaths in 2001.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Douglas Freeman, Jr., and his long-time companion, Sarah Webb. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Roe Freeman, niece, Margaret Freeman, and nephew, Douglas Freeman, III. Also surviving are numerous cousins of both the Roe and Canada families. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral services, with entombment at Forest Lawn Gardens at a later date.
The family would like to thank Wayne’s dedicated team of caretakers and Enhabit Hospice Care for making it possible for him to spend his last months in the comfort of his home. Wayne was a devoted son, a caring brother and uncle, and a loving partner to Sarah. His philosophy of life was simple—always do the right thing, be honest in all your dealings, treat everyone fairly and with respect. We can all best honor his memory by trying to follow his example.
