Educated in Piedmont City and Anniston City Schools, she graduated with the class of 1946—an early reflection of the steady diligence and purpose that would mark her life.
She met and later married Ray B. Roberson of Rome, Ga. Making their home in Rome, they enjoyed 54 years together. Wilma worked at Trend Mills in the Data Processing Department in Rome and later retired, carrying into her work the same reliability and care that family and friends came to know so well.
Wilma found deep meaning in the simple, sustaining gifts of daily life—tending to her flowers and plants, reading her Bible, and sharing with Ray a love of travel and worship. Together, they cherished the fellowship of their church in Rome, where faith was not merely observed, but lived with quiet constancy.
Her commitment to others was expressed through years of active service. She supported children and families through Anniston City Schools PTA, the Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers and PTA Council, and she served as The March of Dimes Director. She also gave her time to the American Cancer Society and United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Alabama Chapter in Anniston, and served as a Cub Scout leader. In church life at Anniston SDA, she served faithfully as Church Clerk, Dorcas: Welfare Center Director, SS teacher, and SS Superintendent—roles that required both organization and compassion, which she offered with steady grace.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Roberson; her children, Deborah B. Stubbs, John W. Bennett Jr. (Shelia), Benny R. Roberson (Elaine), and Janice Roberson Brown; her grandchildren, Richard K. Stubbs II, Chad C. Bennett (Jennifer), Brad W. Bennett, SSgt. Adam B. Roberson (Eliana), Sarah R. McLaughlin (Daniel), Justin Tutt (Rachel D), Megan Brown, and Amanda Brown; and her great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R. A. and Daisy Lucinda Ferguson Connell; her sister, Syble Ozell Connell Williams; and her former husband, John W. Bennett Sr., her son-in-law Richard Stubbs.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to nurse Nichole Jordan and all of the staff at Eternal Faith Hospice, and also nurse Teresa Holt and the staff at Chulio Hills Healthcare.
