Zula Moree Stewart, age 75, of Munford, Alabama peacefully passed from this life into eternity with the Lord on June 1, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Everyone who was lucky enough to know Zula experienced her gracious and kind spirit. She used her spiritual gift of hospitality to the fullest, as there was always room for everyone at her table, home, and in her heart. She lived a life of active love, caring for so many family members and friends. Her soul as an artist allowed her to see and create beauty from the simple pleasures of life, including her gardens and the furry family members. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and so very proud of her children and grandchildren. Her gentle spirit was a welcome balm in the frenzy of the day. There are too few Zulas in this world, and she will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her husband James Howard Stewart, Jr., brother Wiley Lee Moree (Doris), sister Ettie Patricia Starlin, daughter Debra McConnell LaRussa, son Steven Eugene McConnell (Camille), stepdaughters Deborah Stewart Yim (Michael), Alice Ann Stewart Boone, and stepson David Frank Stewart. “Mommy Zusa” is survived by her two grandchildren, John Taylor LaRussa (Sheila) and Leah Brooks LaRussa. Zula is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Patrick Thomas Yim, Daniel Stewart Yim (Kira), Jacob Bailey Boone and Joshua David Boone. She was preceded in death by her mother Flora Brooks Starlin, father John Alexander Starlin, Jr., brother John Alexander Starlin, III, and stepson James Howard Stewart, III.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:00 am with services following at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 1320 Golden Springs Road, Anniston, Alabama 36207 with Rev. Tim E. Kendrick, Rev. Kevin McDade, and Michael D. Brown officiating.
