Born May 20, 1937 in Anoka, MN to Victor and Evelyn Swing. Passed away Friday, July 16th, 2021, at the of age 84. Bernie resided in Brooklyn Park for the past 61 years with her husband Warren.
Bernie is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Tommie Jo; her mother and father, Victor and Evelyn Swing; brother, Virgil (Sonny) Swing; sister, Rosetta (Tots) Benninger; brother Leon (Nook) Swing; nephews, David Swing and Troy Swing.
Bernie is survived by her husband, Warren ‘Tinner’ Tompkins; Daughters, Vicki Gessell, Kelli Tompkins and Traci (Amara) Dukuly; Grandchildren, Rachel Gessell, Michelle (Mario) Smith, Michael (Brielle) Davis, Jamie Gessell, Keenan (Ebony Winder) Davis, Demarie Davis, Trae (Cierra) Davis; Great grandchildren, Donavin, Davian, Gabriel, Anna, Xavier, Aiden, Kemaury, Janiya, Linden, Katalina, Elleanna, Jeremiah, Amelia, Kemiyah, Nakai, Zaria, Kaden, Rhyla, Emmanuel and Kason; Sister, Fern Soucy; sister-in-law, Jeanie Swing; Many nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and acquaintances.
Bernie worked as an Office Manager running a printing company until she retired. Throughout her life she loved riding her motorcycle, snowmobiling, riding horses, fishing, playing softball and volleyball, painting, enjoying time at her cabin, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching wheel of fortune, westerns, going to the casino, and sitting outside with garage door open with Tinner.
We love you, Babes, mom, grandma, great grandma more than we can express in words and will miss you greatly every day. You were a great inspiration to all of us and we could not have asked God for a more loving, caring person to be the anchor of or family.
Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 25h, 2021 from 5-7 at the Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home located at 522 E. River Road, Anoka, MN 55303. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Anoka, MN.
