Brian Jerome Wendt, “Gumby,” passed away at the age of 68 in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Over the years, his perseverance and strength to live fully would not let cancer defeat him until the Lord called him home.

Brian, Daddy-O, Papa, Gumby had the biggest heart. He was known for his storytelling, quick wit, laughter, humor, ability to fix things, expertise in specific trades, adventurousness, social spirit and loyalty among friends and family, and the one you called when you needed help or wanted to talk.

Brian was born in Fargo, North Dakota on September 12, 1951. He was the youngest of six brothers and grew up in between North Dakota and Montana. He moved to Minnesota at the age of 16 and graduated from Anoka High School. He attended autobody school and was given the opportunity to work as an auto glass specialist, which transitioned him into a career as a glazier. Later in life, he enjoyed working in different areas of CDL, driving primarily over the road. He enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar, karaoke with his brothers, races, snowmobiles, softball, auctions, pull-tabs, camping and watching sports.

Brian was married to Cathy for 46 years. They first met at Cathy’s work at Brookdale Mall in 1972. They lived their lives together on scenic drives, bowling, and visiting friends and family. They raised four children: Jenny “Peanut,” Jerod “Buddy Ol’ Pal,” Sara “Giggles,” and Briana “My Favorite Youngest Daughter” in Ramsey, MN.

His grandchildren were his heart and joy. Kayla “DQ Kayla,” Jenessa “Sidekick,” Eric Jr. “Donut,” Gabriel “Tank,” Jacob “Comeback Kid,” Maura “Mohawk,” and Blane “Roar,” were his lifeline to live fully while battling cancer. He supported his grandkids' softball, BMX, soccer, dance, football, karate, and snowboarding. The kids looked up to him and he loved each of them in his own special way.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Beatrice, brother Gary, and sister in-laws Elaine and Mary. He is survived by his Wife, Cathy; Children, Jenny (Eric) Bliss, Jerod (Erin) Wendt, Sara (Rayeed) Wendt Ibtesam, and Briana Wendt; Seven Grandchildren; Brothers, Ernest (Hedi), Gordy, Dennis (Sharron), and Barry (Rebecca); and multiple Nieces and Nephews.

Brian, you are forever in our hearts!

Memorial cards, flowers, and donations may be sent to Catherine Wendt at 210 13th Avenue North Princeton, MN 55371.

My name is Jim and I am one of many nephews/nieces of Brian Jerome Wendt and his wife ( My Aunt) Cathy. What I remember the most is: Growing up with Brian and Cathy and the relationships with his son Jerod and daughters, Jenny, Sara and Briana. Going to Brainerd, Minnesota for NHRA Drag Racing for over 20 years (1987-1999) and many sports memories as well. Friends and Family all have our own (mostly) happy memories of Brian that will live on!

As a kid, it was always a thrill to go to Cathy and Brian’s house because Uncle Brian has snowmobiles. He used to take us for rides around the snow covered hills and I think he truly relished our screams as he took a hill and we’d fly into the air.
