Chuck was known as "Greg", his middle name, within his family, all of his life. The rest of us always knew him as "Chuck" which began when he started grade school. His earliest memories centered around family of course, especially his beloved Mother, whom he adored. They lived first in Spring Lake Park & then Anoka, Minnesota. Three dogs became part of the family too, Jigsey ( Airdale), Rusty ( Bulldog) & Bandit (Pug). Thus began his love of dogs as family pets.
Chuck had many happy memories of those years and time spent with Grandparents in South Dakota & Illinois. He especially loved his Grandpa Pedersen who taught him to drive in the fields & backroads of rural South Dakota. Trips to Illinois were filled with Grandparents, cousins, Aunts & Uncles. Time was spent laughing around the kitchen table & enjoying his Aunt Wanda's cooking, especially peach cobbler, his favorite!!! Wanda and Greg, as she called him, had a special bond.
Anoka was a great small town to grow up in. He attended Lincoln Elementary School where he had many friends. He was very proud to be a member of the School Patrol in the sixth grade.Chuck spent his free time after school and summers playing baseball, hanging out in the park, riding bikes everywhere with friends and spending time swimming at the Charles Horn Anoka Pool. Everyone went to the pool for the day!! He also loved to skate & spent winter evenings at the local skating rink. In those days, kids could just take off for the day & say see you later Mom! No one worried about where you were!
Chuck's High School years were filled with many good times & lots of friends graduating from Anoka Senior High in 1971. He was a member of the football team & cross country track team which he enjoyed. His favorite class was industrial arts where he learned many lifelong skills. He had an aptitude for mechanics. Chuck loved cars!! When he was 16 years of age, he and a friend replaced a motor in his 1st car, a 1964 Chevy Impala! Pretty impressive! He continued to enjoy working on cars for many years thereafter. One particular memory includes his wife, Mary. When arriving home one day, she was unable to open the garage door. As she entered the side garage door, she found Chuck sitting on the floor with the "shell" of a 1976 Firebird & about a "million" parts strewn everywhere. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning! With a huge smile on his face, he said, "Look what I bought!" I'm going to rebuild it, which he did & it turned out great!!!
After High School, Chuck worked for Midwest Printing Company as a Bindery Journeyman in Minneapolis MN. In later years, he was employed by several local cities in public works. His hobbies included some hunting & fishing in his younger years. He enjoyed cars & snowmobiling & taking care of his yard in later years.
Chuck met the "love of his life", Mary (Frank) in the hallway in 8th grade. They dated throughout high school & married on October 11th, 1975 at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka Minnesota. Life got busy with the building of a new home, work, & the blessings of two beloved sons, Brian & David. Watching them grow was his greatest joy!! Those years were filled with lots of fun! Several pet dogs were part of the family. Pugs, Bandit & Ruby were favorites of Chuck's. Vacations included trips to Disney World, resorts in northern Minnesota, Wisconsin Dells, & the Black Hills of South Dakota. In the boy's grade school years, Chuck enjoyed watching & assisting in their sports activities. Brian played baseball, basketball,& football as well as Boy Scouts. David played baseball, basketball & was a member of the high school swim team. He loved every minute! Those teen years came quickly & Chuck was excited to help them buy their 1st cars!!
He always remained steadfast as the boy's entered adulthood. Whatever they needed, he was there to help. He wasn't afraid to share his own life experiences in hopes he could guide them in good times & hard times. He really loved talking to them about everything!
Chuck was so proud of his son's accomplishments. We welcomed a beautiful daughter-in-law in 2014 when David married his love, Kelly. Chuck really enjoyed time spent in conversations; she could make him laugh!!
A new addition came to David & Kelly, a blessed baby boy named Augustus Samuel Camp born in 2017. We became Grandparents!! How thrilled we were!!
Chuck loved being a Grandpa & "Pappy Chuck", as Gus called him, loved and cherished Gus! He was always so happy to see Gus! He was always looking for "Pappy Chuck" & that was so special to Chuck! They were best buddies & their time together has given us treasured memories to remember.
In retirement, Chuck & Mary spent time at Eagles Cove, a seasonal RV park in Mora Mn. It was his "happy place" & he loved it there. There were so many good times with dear friends & family. In remembrance, we are left with sweet memories of a wonderful man. A beloved husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle & Friend. Chuck was a shy, humble, kind, thoughtful, & loving man. Quick witted & with a good sense of humor, who was generous of heart always. He truly loved his family deeply. We love & will miss you forever.
