Cleo "Butch" Samuel Rud

September 25, 1942April 19, 2021

Cleo "Butch" Samuel Rud, age 78, of Otsego, Minnesota passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021. Cleo was born September 25, 1942.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Engvald and Gladys Rud.

Cleo is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Dixie; children, Ryan (Liz) Rud, Matt (Julie) Rud; grandchildren, Jake, Owen, Samuel, and Isaac; siblings, Ernie Rud and Shirley Everson; special friends, Darrell and Darlene "LaLa" Taie, Gerald and Renee Stanislawski; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Butch was a proud Navy Veteran and lifetime member of the VFW. He was blessed with a loving marriage to Dixie for fifty-two years. Together they raised two sons, their pride and joy, and became grandparents of four grandsons. You could find Butch on the side lines of his grandsons’ sporting events cheering them on. He truly enjoyed watching his family grow and grow up.

Butch loved spontaneous games of cribbage and poker, as well as visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed visiting Alaska and vacationing with family and friends around Minnesota, including the annual summer vacation to the lake with his family. This brings many memories of fishing, boat rides, and brandy sevens. Butch enjoyed spending time working with wood, creating cribbage boards, bean bag boards, and many furniture pieces for family and friends. He was always willing to give a helping hand and a hug. He enjoyed a good steak but Dixie’s chicken noodle soup most of all. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Butch are preferred to the Disabled American Veteran's at, or to an organization of your choice. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared below for the Rud family.

We ask family and friends to join us in a celebration of Butch's life on Saturday May 22nd from 1-5pm. Butchie will be missed so much. He was taken from us way too soon. It was always a good time with him, especially us neighborhood kids.

How lucky we were!!! We bought our 1st home on Raven St in Coon Rapids. It did not take long to meet the best neighbors one could have—the Rud’s- right across the street! We were soon “welcomed” into the Rud’s group of friends/relatives. So many memories were formed over the next 35 years!
-watching our kids grow up together
-the many poker games with Butch’s friends and family
-family camping trips to Wis. Dells and Pine-O-Rama
-bowling together as a league team(Raven Rollers)
-several years of playing weekly volleyball at a church gym
-playing cribbage with Butch

Butch was always so willing to help us when needed. After 35 years as neighbors, we retired, and decided to move “up north”. Toughest part was leaving, but we knew we would continue to be lifelong friends! And we were!! Butch made every day fun and put a smile on everyone’s face. Butch will be missed by all! Our daughters have said that Butch was like a second Dad.

Butch was the life of any party. I loved his shenanigans. I’d find my house redecorated..toilet paper in the fridge type mischief. Always SO much fun!
And as much as Butch could tease and entertain, he could LOVE twice as hard. The pride and affection he had for his whole family, and for all his friends was apparent. When ANY of them walked in-he beamed and teased.
He will be missed by so many! God Bless Cleo and give strength, courage, and peace to his family.

We had so many good times and laughs this past year playing hand and foot with Butch & Dixie, Gerald & Renee & LaLa & I. Butch always had the greatest comments on who was the best players.
