Daryl served in the Army through one deployment in Vietnam. After his military service, he began working on the railroad as an engineer in Montana and Wyoming, and later continued in southern Minnesota. From '71 - '80 he lived in an old miner's cabin and enjoyed life in the woods. After 40 years of railroading he retired to his RV to continue fishing and gold panning.
He is preceded in passing by his daughter, Fawn Bergman, in 2021; parents, Jon and Norma; and previous wife, Barb (Elder/Smith).
Daryl is survived by his beloved wife of 4 years, Nancy (Elk); children, Tobie (Jennifer); step-childern Royce, Star (Harold), Shane, Cathleen, Caleb, Corey (Kathy), Brian; grandchildren, Achilles "Ari", Janell, Isaac (Brook); great-grandchildren, Jollie "Marie", Diego; siblings, Gayle (Darrel) Untereker, Tory (Mark) Ferrey, Gary (Louise) Arfstrom; and many other family members and friends.
