He was born August 18th 1932 in Minneapolis, Mn to Harold and Hazel Wimperis. As a child he worked for his parents during the summer months in Minnesota on the family vegetable farm that served the Minneapolis Farmers Market. And in the winter he worked in California on his grandparents vegetable farm.
He enlisted into the Navy in March 1952 and proudly served 4 years on a destroyer “The USS Owen DD536” as a machinist mate 2nd class during the Korean War. After serving his country proudly he raised a family had 4 children with his loving wife of 71 years Yvonne Wimperis. He worked as a Cement Mason well into his 70’s. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. In his older years he enjoyed gardening, chip carving, watching westerns, filling out sweepstakes always trying to win that big one. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with all his loved ones any chance he could get, animals included.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Hazel Wimperis; his brother, Kenny Wimperis; his sister, Darlene Collison; his son, Gary Wimperis; and his grandson, Jack Wimperis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Yvonne Wimperis, aka his Queen; his sons, Danny Wimperis (Diane) and Tim Wimperis; and daughter, Lisa Wimperis. They had 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was a proud US Navy Veteran, a true patriot, he loved his country and always said this is the best country in the world.
Join us to celebrate Donald's life on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home, 552 East River Rd, Anoka, MN. Visitation at 11 am, service at 12 pm, and luncheon to follow. Interment at 2:45 pm at Vernon Cemetery, 30 Evans Ave NW, Elk River, MN.
