Gary Timothy Coon

November 27, 1951September 3, 2020

Gary Timothy Coon passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at the age of 68 at The Estate at Twin Rivers in Anoka, Minnesota. Born November 27, 1951, in Wyandotte, Michigan, Gary graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1969. He played bass in a band in his youth (briefly meeting Eric Clapton during that time), headlined in a Kinney Shoes television ad in the ‘70s, and possessed a soothing radio voice throughout his adult life. He loved music and had a fantastic sense of humor. He would lip-sync along with Marvin Gaye (donning a black winter beanie cap sitting just above his ears), or dance to the gospel sounds of Luther Vandross. Whenever he heard a Sade song play he would carry a mocked-serious expression on his face and announce it was “belly-rubbing” music. He would then place one hand on his belly while the other reached for the sky. You would think he was experiencing a religious revival. Gary is preceded in death by his father, George Coon; mother, Lillian Coon (Cook); and brother, Dennis Coon. He is survived by his brother, Bruce Coon; son, Chad T. Coon (Cynthia); 3 grandchildren (Maya, Griffin, and Giana); nephews Todd Coon and Jason Coon, and niece Christine Smades.

I work at Twin Rivers and had the opportunity to meet Gary. Very wonderful guy! When I would enter the dining room every morning and say good morning, he always said 'good morning Michelle' without even looking at me, he knew my voice. I would help him outside or back to his room... We all miss him very much! ❤️❤️🙏🙏
