Our son, Micah, enjoyed his conversations with Mike… and we loved hearing, “I want to talk to Mike about that.”  He planned to attend Mike’s Celebration of Life. We are heartbroken that his life ended the day before. 

Kari, your note to us was such a comfort. I’m sorry that we never got to know Mike.

Mike was apart of my small group at Eagle Brook, we shared a passion for archery, Hawaiian shirts and the eagerness to learn about Gods word. He was a brother in Christ and know that we will see each other again one day. Gone but not forgotten, buddy

I had the privilege of knowing Mike for only a short time through our archery bible study group, but he was such an uplifting and energetic soul that appreciated everyone for what they brought to the conversation. I will pray for his family and feel at peace knowing he is with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Mike was a great friend and neighbor! I loved living next to him and Cooper. He was always so helpful, generous and friendly. We had so many deep conversations. He was always down for a concert or casino adventure. A stand up guy. I will deeply miss you Mike! Until we meet again.

Mike probably spent more time repairing the Spitfire than actually driving it. Regardless, any time it ran and the weather was at least semi-decent, it was time for a spin. He loved wearing the goofy aviator hat while driving to make others laugh. He assured me that somehow the passenger side was more comfortable without the seat than with it. He always drove it barefoot. He'd crank the music to hear it over the exhaust. He always let kids sit in the driver seat and often took them for a ride.

Mike loved going to church on Sundays - even if it meant waking up early in the morning on the weekend. When more volunteers were needed for Summer Baptism a couple of years ago, Mike was happy to step up and help out - in any role. God knew Mike's vibrant personality offered a special support, Mike was assigned to cheer team. Mike often shared with me how excited he was to volunteer in this role and how these were some of the happiest days of his life.  Any time Mike could lift someone up, offer encouragement, or lend a hand, he was there.

Mike loved volunteering at our friend's 5K benefit - we ran the halfway/turn around table. Mike cheered for the participants, handed out waters, and of course, gave endless high 5s. After the race, we spent time at the park with the finishers, friends, and families. In true Mike fashion, he'd make his way to the playground - and he was so pumped to try out the zipline. Mike launched all of the kids first - then he stepped up for his turn. I miss his playful spirit and will forever treasure these memories in my heart.

It's been over 15 years since we first met and grew to be friends through high school and our time at Anoka Ramsey. Even though I moved to AZ 12 years ago, Mike was always keeping in contact with me through the ups and downs of life. A constant throughout were the spontaneous phone calls with him through the years. He was always so supportive of me as I fumbled my way through life. It breaks my heart that he's gone, but I am forever grateful to have known him. I'm going to miss you Mike, Thank you so much for everything.

Can’t believe it’s been 12 years since we met in that Anoka Ramsey chemistry lab. Initially bonding over the fact we both drove monte carlos. After we both transferred it was always great coming back to Minnesota and grabbing breakfast with you, I’m sure we annoyed the waitresses with how long we’d stay. I enjoyed the time we got to spend together and the phone calls were always great especially being able to talk family, life, cars, guns, work stuff and how we worked in a glorified jobs program for the government lol. You were always just a phone call away when anything challenging came up and were there to celebrate too, especially when my daughter was born. I’m so grateful for the time I got spend with you and will do my best to keep your memory alive. You were such a great friend.

Mike was and still is one of my best friends from college. We have so many great memories from Mankato and even after graduation. From causing shenanigans in Mankato to fun ice fishing trips after college you've always been such a great person. I can't believe you are gone. I will always remember our times together. Thank you for being there on my wedding day and supporting me always. Until we meet again! Miss you dude!

Mike and I were friends during our time at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I have so many fond memories of our college years together. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Mike was such a smart, kind friend, and I will miss him dearly. This photo is from one night when Mike, Andy, and I went stargazing. It is a memory I will always cherish. My heart goes out to everyone who loved him during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathy to all of you on such a terrible loss. Although I didn't know Michael personally, I worked with Jeff for many years and I can only assume Jeff's kindness, helpfulness towards others, ability to make you laugh, and in general being a good friend was passed down to Michael. I will be sending all the prayers and good thoughts your way that I can. Again, my deepest condolences.

Mike's spirit was truly one of a kind. He touched so many people, everywhere he went - and I was no exception.

His best friend. The recipient of pizza crusts, burrito ends, and ice cream cone shells. Cooper is the epitome of love. Cooper loved living life with Mike. He went on many hikes & swims with us 
- and always had his head out the window on the drive. He also enjoyed the many ice cream stops. Cooper had his own pillow and spot on the couch. He loved going for rides in the Spitfire, cuddling with Mike, and retrieving the birds. He was the best dog Mike could have asked for.

Mike was not a morning person but he'd get out of bed with the promise of food and fun times. He loved to be outside. He'd climb up all sorts of things, go for a swim in the river every chance he could, he'd pick up cool rocks and had a collection from all over. He would sneak off trail and go exploring. He'd make sure to pack lots of snacks - beef jerky, dill pickle or spicy sunflower seeds, Pepsi, and a red bull. We'd always have to stop somewhere for ice cream - even if it was at 8am.

Mike was always one to say yes, always up for an adventure, he had a zest for life. We shared many interests - and supported each other's passions. I went to coin shows, military museums, learned how to ice skate (not very well), listened to podcasts and soapboxes, survived a ride on the 3wheeler with Mike driving, and many other things. 

He showed up in the same way for me. Whether it was something artsy, a souvenir stop, Black Friday shopping to snag a new pair of Ariat boots (he hated shopping), or my endless love of animals, he was always there. Mike had no idea how to be around horses, but quickly learned so he could have an active part in my lifestyle. His favorite things were feeding an endless buffet of treats and hanging out with the herd while he pointed out the wildlife he spotted nearby (usually accompanied with lots of information about said wildlife). He'd always stop and offer help to barn staff, whether it was breaking something down or carrying something heavy. 

Being loved by Mike was truly a special gift that I will forever cherish.

The trip of a lifetime. From our "America the Beautiful" road trip. I had always wanted to see snow-capped mountains and Mike made sure that happened. Through the Dakotas (even a stop at Wall Drug - which Mike actually enjoyed!), Montana, and Wyoming - many hours at Yellowstone N.P. & Grand Tetons. It was such a special place for both of us and we had plans to return. He was looking forward to climbing in the Tetons, hunting in the mountains, and swimming in a cavern. 

So many memories, not only in our travels, but every time we were together. He did everything he could to keep a smile on my face. He was one of the most genuine, caring, compassionate people. In true Mike fashion, he lived life unfiltered.

Mike was a good friend for the past 12 years starting from freshman year EE106. You knew right away that he was going to be top of the class. 

We shared many common interests: being perpetually disappointed in Minnesota sports, cars and turning wrench, and problem solving. He was my sounding board for ideas, good or bad, as well as someone who would always lend a hand fixing something or helping out however he could.

I’ll miss going to Wolves and Wild games with him. I’ll miss calling him and having a 5 minute question turn into a two hour long discussion on everything going on in the world. I’ll miss his laugh and smile. I’ll miss getting a beer from the legion and splitting a pizza. I’ll miss how happy he got whenever he could duck another jeep. I’ll miss Mike.

My condolences to Mike’s loved ones and those close to him. We went to college together at Mankato and briefly dated. He was such an extraordinary, intelligent and driven person with a caring side. I have thought about him often and look back at our time together fondly. I will never forget Mike and his love for laughing coupled with his thoughtful spirit. Rest easy, Mike.
