Richard Veron Altmann

Richard was born on September 25, 1951, in Mellen, WI, and was most recently a resident of Anoka, Minnesota. He grew up in Beaver Bay, MN, in a one room cabin with no electricity or running water. This was something he would frequently reminisce about. In his youth he was an avid outdoorsman.

Richard went to the University of Minnesota Duluth and majored in English. He taught briefly and then worked at LTV Steel until their closure. He enjoyed his position at F&D Meats in Virginia, MN, where he was very proud of his work. In the 70's Richard enjoyed travelling, and even took a trip on his motorcycle from Minnesota to Alaska. He met Donna at Hopkins Healthcare while they were both working as CNAs. Richard and Donna were married September 7, 1985. Their first son Michael passed away on May 5, 1986 due to SIDS.

The family moved back to Hoyt Lakes where Richard worked as a mining foreman. Benjamin was born in 1987, Christopher was born in 1989, and William was born in 1993. After the mines closed, he went back to school and received his LPN in 2003. In 2004 they moved to Anoka where he worked at AMRTC until retirement. Richard was proud of his 12 years of sobriety, and he was very active and supportive in his AA Community. He enjoyed exercising, replacing drinking with exercising and working out at Planet Fitness.

Richard had a complicated relationship with his faith, eventually becoming a firm believer in Jesus Christ. He was an avid dog lover his whole life, who was especially fond of his two dogs Dutchess and Brandie.

He was preceded in passing by his son, Michael F. Altmann; brother, Frank H. Altmann; parents, Frank Z. and Violet M. Altmann.

Richard is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, Christopher, William, and Benjamin Altmann; sister-in-law, Catherine Altmann; two nephews; furever friend, Neffie; and many extended family members and friends.
