Susan is survived by her husband, Ronald, of almost 50 years; her two children, Josh (Chantal) Myhre and Sarah (Daniel) Heins; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two siblings, Patricia Wilson and Donald Berre; and many other family members and friends.
Sue's final wishes were to be cremated, and Gearhart Funeral Home has fulfilled those wishes. To celebrate her life, Sue's family is organizing a memorial event in the coming weeks, and the details of this event will be shared through social media.
Sue was born on August 24th, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN, to Kenneth and Georgene Berre, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Fridley, MN, a northern suburb of Minneapolis, where she attended school until graduating from Fridley High School in 1971. After high school, Sue obtained a Medical Secretary Certificate from Anoka Technical College.
While attending college, she worked as the medical secretary for Dr. John Howard Moe, a world-famous orthopedic surgeon, former head of orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota, and who was considered a pioneer in the treatment of scoliosis. During her tenure with Dr. Moe, one of Sue's many responsibilities was proofreading his medical publications, including his 1978 book, ‘Scoliosis and Other Spinal Deformities.’ Sue continued working for Dr. Moe until his retirement.
After Dr. Moe's retirement, Sue worked as an Administrative Assistant for an up-and-coming new home builder in Ramsey, MN. Within a few years, while still working for the new home builder, Sue became a realtor and exclusively sold new homes throughout the development of Oakridge Estates in Ramsey, MN. Later, she returned to the medical industry, overseeing patient intake at a nursing home in Anoka, MN, until she transitioned to her final career, administering intake for the Social Services department at Sherburne County in Elk River, MN.
Sue had a great love of music, including, but not limited to, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Randy Travis, GB Leighton, Elvis Presley (even including Elvis impersonators that she and many family and friends enjoyed at Breezy Point). Both she and Ron also enjoyed The Rolling Stones and attended many concerts together, including taking their children and parents to their Steel Wheels concert at the Metrodome in 1989.
She was a wonderful mother who loved and adored her children and dedicated much of her time taking them to many Twins games and various other fun activities during their childhood. She staunchly encouraged her children to participate in sports, and supported and encouraged them in all their endeavors. Whether it was her son Josh starting his first job at the age of 14, or his hunting, snowmobiling, and ice fishing adventures, or supporting her daughter, Sarah in gymnastics, golf, soccer, and her college pursuit, she was always there. Sue worked diligently at all her jobs, but most of her free time was spent chauffeuring her kids to and from various activities and assisting them in any way possible to pursue their passions. Her unwavering dedication ensured her children enjoyed a wonderful upbringing and beyond.
After her children left home, she and Ron enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and continued to annually visit Breezy Point Resort on Pelican Lake, a time-share resort they started visiting around 1987. She cherished the moments when her children and grandchildren joined them there, creating many lasting memories. One memorable incident involved a bat getting trapped and flying around inside the two-level, vaulted-season condominium, in the middle of the night waking everyone up.
She loved her grandchildren immensely, from taking them to Duluth, MN to see the ships, to purchasing music lessons, and supporting and cheering for them in their sports activities.
Her favorite day of the year was Christmas Eve because she was able to share it with many loved ones. She loved her crafts and spent a lot of time creating things, generously sharing them with others. One thing that she cherished was that she made butterfly push pins to pin up a decorative wall ribbon in her only granddaughter's bedroom.
One common theme we hear from almost everyone is that she enjoyed talking with others, learning about them, and making connections wherever she went. She had a knack for striking up conversations with just about anyone, whether she was standing in line at an event, sitting on a park bench, or at a sporting event. She always found a way to connect with strangers through conversation.
