He and his wife of 49 years, Colleen, shared a wonderful life together raising their children. Vern took great pride in his family and loved them all dearly. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures — a home-cooked meal, a good football game on TV, and the lively rhythms of his favorite polka songs. Their home was a true haven for his entire family. And who could forget Vern’s unmistakable, hearty laugh that always brought a smile to your face.
A skilled welder and fabricator by trade, Vernon took pride in working with his hands — shaping metal with precision. From cargo ships to excavators, he was a true craftsman. Over the years, he lovingly fabricated gifts for friends and family. Though he never claimed to be an artist, he certainly had the talent — carving family names in metal or creating pond and yard ornaments — and he never expected anything in return. He was simply glad to bring others joy.
As a dedicated Jehovah’s Witness, Vernon held a deep hope for the future — one that shaped the man he was, the way he treated others, and the values he passed on to his children. Vern’s faith gave him purpose in life. Even in his final days, that faith gave him peace — knowing that his Heavenly Father will hold him in His memory and that he will see his family again in the new world to come.
Vernon was preceded in death by his father, Roland Keith Houser; mother, Anita Lillian Houser (Horton); and brother, Keith Neroy Houser.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen Houser (Watland); daughters, Tawny Rupp (Eric) and Natasha Banwart (Ryan); son, Jade Houser (Jenna); grandchildren, Eden and Hazel Rupp, and Aleister Houser; sister, Corinne Elfelt; brother, Les Houser; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
