He is survived by his wife Kim, sons Allen Jr, Jason (Christina), grandchildren William, Addison, brother Dennis (Joan), sister Janis (Bob), a niece and 3 nephews .
After graduation from Evans High School in 1967, Allen worked for Hubbard Construction Company as a surveyor apprentice. He enjoyed the challenge of being outdoors and truly in the wilds of Florida. He took civil engineering courses at Valencia Community College to further his career.
He later went into business with his brother and opened The Alden Press, an Orlando print production firm, where he learned all aspects of the printing process, management of schedules, customer service and troubleshooting equipment and repairs. After several years they closed the business and Allen moved to Panama City, Florida where he met and married his sweetheart, Kim. He took a position with Curry Printing and Copy Center worked there for seven years as a press operator, producing brochures and marketing materials for local businesses in the area.
Allen returned to Orlando in 1987 and went to work for Bowyer Singleton and Associates as a Survey Party Chief. During his 23 years with this firm, his duties grew to assigning projects roles, overseeing training for new staff, and production of topography and right-of-way surveys that were used to develop high-level commercial and residential plans. These included some of the best-known communities in Orlando, such as Waterford Lakes and Hunters Creek.
In 2010, he took a job in the Printing Services section of Orange County Public Schools where he helped produce instructional materials for schools, training documents for staff, and a variety of business marketing materials for district level departments. He assisted in the production process and helped coordinate the packaging and delivery of the largest testing program the school system had ever undertaken. His technical knowledge of printers and copiers, along with his courteous demeanor, made him a pleasant addition to their team. He left OCPS in the spring of 2017, to pursue full time retirement on the golf course.
Allen was an avid golfer, playing in several different leagues upon retirement, as well as enjoying rounds with different groups of friends. He developed a very smooth swing that resulted in many straight and accurate shots, such as the 3 Holes-in-One he recorded during his playing time. His ability to read greens and deliver silky smooth putts amazed many of his teammates and opponents!
He and Kim moved to Zellwood Station in Apopka, where he immediately fit in with their friendly golf community. Playing rounds with other members during the week, he continued to enjoy traveling to courses around central Florida, as well as getting in a few rounds whenever he and Kim would travel to North Carolina. Even as his health started to decline, Allen managed to adapt an oxygen tank to allow him to continue to enjoy his favorite courses.
The family would like to thank Advent Health Apopka and Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Allen in his final days.
