Anna Marie Grandas (Annie), formerly of Flint, Michigan, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 11, 2026. Like her father John, she lived to be a magnificent 106 years of age. She was born on December 6, 1920 in Hollsopple, Pennsylvania, to John and Nancy Pollock, their only girl.
Annie graduated high school in 1938 and two years later, she married the love of her life, Joseph Grandas. Annie was a devoted homemaker and a fulltime mother to five children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
In 1940, Annie married Joseph in Winchester, Virginia, had their first child, Deanna, who was a Down Syndrome little girl. They lived in Pennsylvania for four years before Joseph took an engineering apprentice position at Buick Motor Division and relocated to Flint, Michigan. They purchased a modest home on Knapman St. in Flint and together, with her husband, humbly raised their five children with strong Christian values and a love for life. Annie and Joe were married nearly 60 years.
Annie had a great passion her family but also enjoyed the art of cooking, baking, canning, crafting rag rugs, vegetable gardening, fishing, hunting mushrooms as well as seasonally gathering wild nuts and berries - anything that had to do with nature and the outdoors she loved. She also enjoyed community opportunities in that she sat on several Election committees, occasionally worked at a restaurant called "The Chuck Wagon" during lean years, and ran as a candidate for the Flint Board of Education.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Grandas; her daughter, Deanna; her parents, Nancy and John Pollock; her brothers, Pete, Mike, Nick, Steve, and Harry.
She is survived by her children, Eleanor Zang of Apopka, Florida, Joseph Grandas and his wife, Susan, of Dearborn, Michigan, Michael Grandas and his wife, Deborah, of Flushing, Michigan, and Robert Grandas and his wife, Mary Jo, of Hudson, Wisconsin, along with her 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Annie will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memories and the life she built with her family will live on in their hearts forever. Until we meet again.
