Juan was born on June 24, 1956, in Nueva Santa Rosa, Guatemala to Jacinto and Julia Donis. In 1980, he migrated to the United States to build a life for himself and ultimately became a business owner in residential construction. In 1980, he also met Aurora Lozano, his future wife, through a christian youth group. They wed on November 22, 1981 and had 3 children, Miriam, Natalie, and Julianna, and adopted their nephews Helder, Clara, and Manuel in 1993. In his most cherished role, he was grandfather to his 7 grandchildren Tony, Danny, Nick, Adelyn, Daninel, Jackelin, and Dayanis.
Juan was a valued member of the Apopka community. For over 30 years he was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as a eucharistic minister, and was member of the Grupo de Jovenes, a group his children would join as well. Between 1981-84 he and his wife Aurora hosted “El Sol Nace Para Todos”, an hour long local radio show devoted to spreading the good word.
Juan could often be found reading, writing, and reciting poetry. He would memorize and recite poems for his children and wrote dozens of poems for his beloved Aurora. Juan loved motorcycles and riding. He was fortunate enough to own two bikes during his lifetime and would often trek between Orlando and Tampa to see his daughter Miriam in college. Juan was also passionate about music and travel. He was lucky enough to travel the world, visiting multiple countries across Europe and Central America. This past year, he fulfilled a life-long dream to participate in El Camino de Santiago de Compostela Pilgrimage in Spain. He valued hard-work, faith, and family, and was known for his fearlessness.
Juan was preceded in death by his father Jacinto and mother Julia, as well as his brothers Father David, Noe, Jesus, and sister Carmen. He is survived by his wife Aurora, his six children Helder, Clara, Manuel, Miriam, Julianna, and Natalie, his sister Esther, her husband Santiago, their children Flor, Noel, Esau, and a vast extended family.
