In Loving Memory (September 18, 1947 – June 25, 2025)
With deep sorrow and gentle remembrance, we announce the passing of Katherine Mary Martin, who departed this life on June 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 18, 1947, Katherine’s journey was marked by a quiet strength, deep creativity, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones.
Katherine was a gifted artist, whose hands brought color and meaning to the world. Her artwork, inspired by the beauty of everyday life, touched the hearts of all who encountered it. Whether through painting or sketching, she wove her unique perspective into each piece, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and beauty.
Alongside her artistic pursuits, Katherine dedicated many years to serving as a secretary for the City of Apopka and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. She embodied patience and grace in her position and was able to retire in 2013 allowing her to spend more time with family and spill her heart onto paper and canvass once again.
Katherine shared her life with her beloved husband, Jimmy Darrel Martin, to whom she was devoted until his passing in 2012 and forever after. Their partnership was one of love, support, and shared dreams and now she is back in his arms to stay.
Their two children are Zachary Michael Martin and Summer Katherine Martin Botelho. Summer and her husband Manny Botelho also blessed Katherine with three amazing grandchildren, Cheyenne Hynes, Triton Botelho and Manny Botelho III.
Katherine also leaves behind her three sisters Jean O’Brien, Colleen Grogg, and Peggy Curtis, her brother David O’Brien, sisters-in-law Alice and Denise Martin, brother-in-law Steve Zurbola, and many others that will cherish their time with her.
Katherine will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her artistry and kindness. Her legacy endures in the art she created, the care she gave, and the love she shared.
An online ZOOM service will be held in her honor at a date and time to be determined soon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that everyone sketch/draw/paint/color a small flower and/or bird on paper and mail it to Summer to treasure the memory of the artist in everyone and honor Katie’s passion. Even if it is a stick bird or flower, it doesn’t matter. Keep it small. Nothing bigger than 8x8 and don’t forget to sign your art.
