Lebert Hezekiah Thompson

Lebert Hezekiah Thompson affectionately known to his family and friends as “Tommy” and “Mr. T” was born to Thomas and Virginia Thompson on June 14, 1926 in Wayne Road, Port Antonio, Jamaica, W.I. He was the second child and was preceded in death by his brothers Cleveland Thompson and Ralvin Thompson. Lebert was educated in Port Antonio and was successful in the 1st and 2nd year examinations. He joined and served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in England for 2 years. While there, he studied Bridge Building Maintenance.

On his return to Jamaica, he was employed with the Public Works Department and the Ministry of Local Government where he worked until he retired in 1986 as Superintendent of Water Works. He began studying the bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and liked very much what he was learning to the point of relinquishing his membership at the Methodist Church he attended for many years. At times he was criticized by friends and co-workers for his decision saying “Mr. Thompson gone mad”.

Upon migrating to New York City in 1986, Lebert continued his quest for learning what the bible really teaches and subsequently dedicated his life to serving his God, Jehovah in June 1988. He married his beloved wife, Yvonne, to whom he was a devoted, loving husband. In 1996, they relocated to Orlando, Florida and have associated with the Altamonte West; Plymouth and North Apopka Congregations. Lebert had a thirst for the field ministry, wanting to tell his neighbors about the wonderful promises the bible hold out for mankind. He would often get home early in the morning after his secular job and willingly took the group out in the ministry. Even as his health began to fail and he could not participate in the door to door work, he would often engage in telephone witnessing, just having that desire to spread the good news of God’s Kingdom to all who would listen.

Lebert was a loving, attentive husband, father and friend. He was loved by all. He had an awesome singing voice and loved to sing the Kingdom songs; and a fine dancer as well.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne Thompson. Children and their spouses: Lennox Townsend (Lenny); Basil Thompson and wife Lorreen Thompson; Marcia Robinson and husband Donald Robinson; Sandra Spencer and husband Christopher Spencer. Grandchildren: Dicalo Thompson, Andre Thompson, and his spouse Sudan, Simmonette Thompson, Nicolette Thompson, Navid Thompson, Colleen Mitchell and her spouse Robert, Jhennelle Townsend, Chelsea Townsend, Keisha Robinson, Keron Robinson, Imani Spencer and Brian Spencer. Great Grandchildren: Khalid, Simone, Robert, Marshall and Brandon. Nieces: Iris (Cherry), Claudette, Grace, Lelieth, Lydia and Maxine. He was also a father figure to Claudine Keane and Norma Leveridge. Step-children: Diana Rhodd (including Richard, Delano and Victoria); Veroney Joseph (including David and Dayna); Mark Webb (including Sophia, Tarryl, Steven, Nicholas and Brandon); Dahlia Webb and Andrew Webb (including Julia, Andrew Jr. Joel, and Julian); and Great Grandchildren. Also grieving Lebert’s loss are other Nieces, Nephews, spiritual brothers, sisters and friends.
