Rob McConnell, age 56, of Apopka, Florida passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. Rob was born July 1, 1964 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. He loved cruising. He loved going to St. Maarten and a great accomplishment was when he made it to Blast Away Beach to see the airplanes fly over the beach. He also loved Grand Cayman and especially loved the turtle farm, with the beautiful old sea turtles. He was a software engineer and worked mainly in the defense industry creating devices for the research and development of our troops. His biggest legacy was creating software that formed our current road tolling system, which has led to the ability to create the autonomic cars. He leaves behind at least seven patents!

He was an avid football fan of Penn State, the Steelers, and a reluctant Buckeye fan. He also loved cars, especially his first car, a bright orange, 1970 Datsun 240Z, given to him by his aunt Kathy. His family towed that car all the way from PA to FL. He loved computers from building them to programming them. He shared this passion with his dad who actually built him a computer when he was just a teen.

Mr. McConnell is preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Earl McConnell. He is survived by his loving wife of 91/2 years, Kristy McConnell; children, Cynthia Nicole McConnell, Gavin Robert McConnell, and Erik Eugene Burch; mother, Patricia McConnell; siblings, Kimberly (Mike) Cannaday, Brian McConnell; grandmother, Betty Henry; mother-in-law, Shirley Knutsen; and nieces and nephews, Ashley (Brent) Plansinis, Kaitlyn (Jon) Jusino, Zachary Cannaday, and Austin Cannaday. Rob was a terrific friend in high school and college. We met in Lake Howell HS Drum Corp. Rob had a very dry sense of humor. I remember him making me laugh so hard that my face would hurt. We would talk for hours about drum corp, girls, and computers. I was amazed at how Rob knew early on that his future was in computer science. There was never any doubt that he would be successful. He also had a love for music and photography. I remember when we went on church outings he would take amazing photos, add music and create presentation for all of us to enjoy. This was back when nobody else was doing it. I loved Rob's family and enjoyed going over to his house during high school and interacting with everyone. Rob's parents were so kind, I remember his family taking in a foreign exchange student for a year or so. Rob introduced me to Ascension Lutheren Church where Pastor Engel was the youth minister. I have many special memories there thanks to Rob. I regret drifting apart from Rob and always imagined that one day we would get back together and be good friends again. I waited too long. Rob made a big difference in my life and I am fortunate to have known him.

First let me say the very moment Robert closed his eyes for his last he awoke in the presence of our Lord. That’s a promise we have. And one Robert understood. We had sometime to speak and my first regret was we didn’t speak more. But in the moments we spent together a few things became absolutely clear. Robert first loved the Lord and secondly most importantly he loved his sweet wife. That I can say with certainty. Lastly his children. He was very proud of who they we becoming. But really he had a great love for all his family . We can live two life times and never have a life well lived. Robert had a life well lived. And for that our Lord has welcomed him home with open arms. Jesus asked Peter do you love me and it took Peter three times to get the true meaning of LOVE. Robert understood that Love.
Be Blessed

Rob was a good man and loved his family. He was very smart and invented things that helped change the world we live in today. His children were his pride and joy. They will miss him but I am sure they have some good memories to cherish. Now fly with the angels........

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Rob in person but know how much he meant to Kris, his wife, and their pictures always relayed the great love between them and the joys they shared together. Sending love to all of you at this difficult time.

Well I’m sorry I don’t have a memory because I never had the pleasure of meeting Robert. I worked with his mother Pat and knew his dad. Very nice family. My heart goes out to all of you at this time. I hope there is some comfort in all of your wonderful memories.
