

Meredith Ann McCloskey Heinle was born on April 14, 1934, in Fortuna, California, to James J. McCloskey, Jr., and Claire Nelson McCloskey, and died in Arcata on December 24, 2012, at the age of 78. She was the third generation of the McCloskey family to be raised in Loleta, and she graduated from Fortuna Union High School, Class of 1951. She attended Santa Rosa Junior College and worked as a legal secretary prior to her marriage to Charles C. "Chuck" Heinle in 1954. They lived in Santa Rosa, CA until 1970 when Chuck was transferred to Arcata as assistant manager of Wells Fargo Bank. During the years her children were growing up Meredith was active in their activities as well as PTA. After moving to Arcata she took classes at college of the Redwoods, and in 1975 returned to work as a legal secretary, working first in the offices of William F. Ferroggiaro, Jr., then Stokes, Steeves, Jensen & Cissna. In 1985 she was hired as secretary for the Humboldt Superior Court, and had the distinction of being the first person in the history of that court to hold the title of Senior Judicial Secretary, retiring in 1999 after 14 years in that position. After retirement she moved to McKinleyville. Meredith enjoyed traveling and some of her favorite trips were to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and Canada, along with many trips to the great parks of North America. She enjoyed working on her family genealogy and one of her favorite trips was to Ireland where she was able to visit several counties, tracing her Irish heritage. She also loved taking a Swedish class at the Humboldt Senior Resource Center for many years. Meredith had served as a volunteer at the McKinleyville branch of the Humboldt County Library and was currently taking OLLI classes, in creative writing and Tai Chi, through Humboldt State University. She was a member of the Humboldt County Historical Society and the Redwood Genealogical Society. She was a member of the Humboldt County Historical Society and the Redwood Genealogical Society. Meredith was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Charles C. Heinle, in 1995, her brother, James J. McCloskey, III, and her parents. She is survived be her children, David M. Heinle of Salem, OR, Susan E. Louk of Albany, OR, James K. Heinle of San Francisco, CA, and Carol A. Escobar of Eureka, CA.; grandchildren Marcus W. Louk and his wife Lindsey of Corvallis, OR and KAthleen S. "Katie" Louk of Corvallis, OR., great grandsons Colton M. Louk, Baron C. Louk and Grafton O. Louk; a niece, a nephew, several cousins, and her cat Julius. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. There will be a visitation at 2:00 PM from 10:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Paul's Chapel, 1070 H Street, Arcata, California. Following the viewing there will be a Rosary also at Pauls Chapel. After the first of the year there will be a Memorial Mass held in Meredith's honor at Christ the King Catholic Church in McKinleyville, California.
