Clyde was born to Edward and Rebecca Ward in Spokane, Washington. He was the eldest of five children. He was raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Myrtle Beach, SC, Florida, and North Carolina. He was a star soccer player in high school and gained a real talent for the sport, a passion he carried throughout his life. After graduating high school, Clyde served a two year mission for his church in Warsaw, Poland. There he mastered the Polish language, caught the teaching bug, and developed a love for history.
The first Sunday after his return from Poland, he met his wife Ashley. Clyde and Ashley were married a year and a half later, and would become parents to 5 children; Erin, Libby, (Hannah), Joshua, (Meaghan), Jacob, (Grace) and Penny. Clyde earned his BA in History from UNCG in 2007. He began his teaching career at SWRMS in Asheboro, NC and ended it at NAMS, also in Asheboro NC. He wanted to continue his education and earned his Masters in Education Administration from the University of Dayton, Ohio in 2011.
While teaching Middle School Social Studies for nearly 20 years, Clyde served on many committees and coached football, basketball, soccer and girls volleyball for a time. His pride was coaching boys soccer and helping to lead them into several championships. He got his CDL, so he could also drive the players on the bus to and from the games or student on field trips. He founded a fraternity at NAMS called the Mustache Fraternity, where he taught young boys how to be men and serve their community. The Mustache Fraternity is a service based club, which is still in operation to this day and stands as a lasting legacy of his mentorship. Clyde brought the love of history to school where he organized a yearly Washington DC field trip. He loved his students and made it his mission to show them it was a good thing to be themselves.
With all of Clyde's professional accomplishments, his true love was his family. He loved his wife and their children above all. They were his true pride and joy.
Clyde was also an avid reader and lover of music. He had an eclectic taste and sang his children the lullabyes of Frank Black, REM, Superchunk, Radiohead, mixed with the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Clyde was also quick witted and had the best sense of humor. He loved all things silly, and his infectious laugh brightened every room.
A private memorial service will be held.
Clyde will be greatly missed.
