Thomasville, North Carolina
Evelyn McMillan Myers of Thomasville passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Hospice of High Point on November 6, just four days shy of her 85th birthday.
Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to many—remembered for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She truly had a comeback for everything. Her unwavering love for animals filled her home with the quiet companionship of beloved pets through the years.
She shared countless joyful moments on the dance floor with her husband, Jerry, where her spirit came alive to the rhythm of Carolina’s shag beach music. Evelyn worked for more than 15 years as a medical secretary before retiring and embarking on a second career that showcased her creativity. Through her many crafting projects, she left behind a legacy of beautiful handmade Santas and other repurposed treasures that will be cherished for years to come.
Evelyn was the daughter of Iva Gennelle Draughn and Harvey Donald McMillan. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Don Myers and his wife Crystal, and Steven Russell “Russ” Myers and his wife Kay; her grandchildren, Brandon Myers, Chloe Myers, and Jake Myers; and four great-grandchildren, Florence Lukenda, Jack Lukenda, Eloise Myers and Finn Myers. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jerry Ronald Myers; her sister, Helen Parker; and her grandson, Tyler Myers.
Evelyn’s ashes will be spread across several special places—including with Jerry, her beloved pets, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. A private celebration of her life will be held by the family at that time.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on through the friendships she shared, the music she danced to, and the beautiful things she created with her own two hands.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring her memory with a donation to the SPCA of the Triad, an organization close to her heart:
