Kathleen Capps Hughes

Kathleen Velma Capps Hughes “Granny”, age 96, of Sophia, reunited with her husband and 6 of her children on November 8, 2011. On April 21, 1915 she was born to Van Lemon Capps and Julie Cribb Capps of Horry County, SC. She then married Edward Bethea Hughes on September 14, 1933 and together they had 13 children. She worked very hard all of her life most times working 2 jobs, lastly being Hillsville Family Restaurant. She loved people, loved to cook and cherished her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful woman who loved and was loved by everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hughes in 1981. Survivors include her daughters, Tula Locklear of Wagram, Margaret Garland of Johnson, TN, Carolyn Safrit and her husband Kenneth of Archdale, Melva Spivey of Sophia, Marylin Skipper and her husband Elton of Archdale, Sharon Gasque and her husband Alonzo of Trinity; sons, Michael Hughes and his wife Mary of Thomasville, and Jimmy Hughes of Archdale; sister Geneva Hucks of Conway, 80 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren, 45 great great grandchildren and 3 great great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00pm at Sechrest Funeral Service in Archdale with Pastor Barry Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery.

Family will receive friends this evening from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
