Lawrence Ray Poole Jr., 66, of Archdale, North Carolina, passed away October 28, 2026. Born July 8, 1960, in Florida, Ray was the son of the late Lawrence Ray Sr. and Maggie Kennedy Poole. Through a life marked by steady work, quiet courage, and genuine care for others, Ray earned the respect of many and leaves a legacy that will be long remembered.
Ray built his livelihood with determination and integrity. In 1982, he started his own septic systems business, Ray's Septic Service, and he continued working until March, when his health declined. His resilience and strong sense of responsibility were evident in the way he showed up, day after day, for his family and for those who depended on him.
Family was always at the center of Ray’s life. Ray and Jeannie Stephens together raised three fine gentlemen, Scotty, Michael, and Wayne. In all the ways that matter most, Ray was devoted and faithful—an honest provider, a thoughtful supporter, and a man whose love was shown through steadfast presence and generous action. Known for a kind heart and deep compassion, he was the sort who would give you the shirt off his back, offering help not for recognition, but because it was simply who he was.
Ray’s wisdom often came with warmth and a touch of humor, the kind that put people at ease and made them feel welcome. Well known throughout the community, he was affectionately called the “Mayor of Archdale,” a reflection of the regard in which he was held and the connections he built with sincerity and goodwill. He was a member of Randleman Church of God in Randleman, NC, where his faith and devotion found a home among fellow believers.
A pastime of Ray’s was racing go-karts with his sons for over 30 years—time spent side by side, creating memories rooted in loyalty, encouragement, and the simple joy of being together. Ray was a great son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Preceded in Ray’s death are his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Maggie Poole, and his two sons, Michael and Wayne Poole.
Survivors left to cherish Ray’s legacy are his son, Scotty (Kasey) Poole; four grandchildren, Dylan Poole, Leah (Dakota) Shumaker, Mitchell Poole; mother of his children, Jeannie Stephens Poole; his sister, Kathy (Billy) Stanley; two nephews, Terry Wayne Brown Jr. and Bobby Ray Brown; and many other loved ones and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, from 6 p.m.–8 p.m. at Advantage Funerals and Cremations in Archdale. A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will follow at Ebenezer Memorial Chapel in Archdale.
