A resident of this area all of her life, Mrs. Hill was born on October 18, 1919 in High Point to the late Martine and Mary Dicks Burton. Mrs. Hill was a member of Oak Hill Friends Meeting, where she was very active in Sunday School and all church activities. The light of her world was her son, Roy Lee “Butch” Hill and she also had a great love for his passion, drag racing. She worked as a sewer in a furniture factory for many years and molded Butch into the man he is today, having raised him by herself since the death of her husband. She always was willing to help others and her kind spirit will forever leave a void in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her. Mrs. Hill told everyone she knew about Butch and how he told her, “Momma, I’ll make this up to you someday” and she always reassured them, “He more than has”.
Surviving is her son, Roy Lee Hill and his wife Jan, the daughter she never had, of Randleman; granddaughter, Shawna Gerrish High Point; great grandson, Matthew Belaj; and her sister, Frances Smith and her husband Hanes of Knoxville, TN.
A celebration of Mrs. Hill’s life will be held at 11 am Friday in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service, 120 Trindale Road, Archdale, with Rev. John Sides officiating. Interment will follow in the Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
