Ms. Mary Alice Hodges, 85, passed away on August 14, 2026. Born November 4, 1940, in Surry County, North Carolina, Mary was the daughter of the late Frank Phillips and Katie Bowman. She resided in Lexington, North Carolina.
Mary found her greatest joy in time spent with her family, and she also enjoyed fishing. A woman of steady faith, Mary loved the Lord and treasured reading her Bible, drawing strength and comfort from its words.
For the last 20 years, Mary devoted herself to giving back to her community with a tireless spirit and an open hand. Especially during the holidays, she served food to those experiencing homelessness, distributed clothing to those in need, and helped provide furniture and home goods for those who lacked them. Her life reflected a rare kind of generosity—one rooted in sincere care for others and expressed through consistent, hard work.
Mary’s heart was immense, and she met the world with a warmth that made strangers feel like neighbors. She was known for helping without hesitation, offering what she could, and doing so with a quiet dignity that spoke volumes about the way she lived.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings. Survivors left to cherish Mary’s memories are her two daughters, Mary Cody and Ann Baker; her two sons, James Hodges and Jimmy Hodges; seven grandchildren: Billy Fennell, Bridgett Loggins, Kim Varner, Johnathan Hodges, Christal Hodges, Raven Hodges and Angie Hodges; 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and her two brothers, Roger Phillips and Clyde Phillips.
A Visitation for Mary will be held Monday August 17, from 6p.m.-8 p.m. at Advantage Funerals and Cremations of Archdale, NC.
