Roger loved cooking for large crowds of family and friends. He greeted all men with "Hey man!", mostly because he couldn't remember their names. Roger and Jeannie were members of the Holiday Ramblers for more than 33 years and he was the state manager for 3 years. Roger was also a member of Midway Wesleyan Church in Randleman, NC.
Roger drove trucks for 50 years for Old Dominion Freight Lines and Cone Mills. He and Jeannie also owned and operated R&J Trucking for 10 years. Roger tried to retire but the road continued to call, so he drove tour buses for another 10 years with Holiday Tours as well as other companies.
Roger also adventured from early years of racing stocks at Caraway Speedway when it was just dirt. Roger loved racing so much, that he was the one and only pit crew for Richard Childress, back in his younger years. Roger also had a love for flying his plane, thanks to his older brother, Lawson, who got him hooked. Roger would jump in his Cessna and fly to the beach for breakfast on many occasions as well as Daytona Beach to enjoy the races. Roger loved old cars as well and restored several of them.
Roger was quite the adventurist and loved his family and friends deeply. Roger will be missed by so many. A celebration of life will be held at Midway Wesleyan Church on Saturday August 9, 2025 at 1 p.m. Family will receive friends from 11a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Midway Wesleyan Church or Make A Wish.
