Sean “Redneck” Townsend McDonald, 49, passed away on August 17, 2026. Born August 22, 1976, Sean lived in Trinity, North Carolina, and leaves behind a life remembered with gratitude, warmth, and a steady, uplifting pride in the way he showed up for the people who loved him. He also had a renewed faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized on December 20, 2025.
Sean had a gift for working with his hands and a knack for figuring things out—especially when it came to mechanics involving automobiles, small machines, and lawn mowers. An all-around handyman in the truest sense, he brought patience and practical know-how to the everyday problems that needed solving, and he did it in a way that made others feel helped, not hurried. He was the lead foreman for MAG Concrete for 24 years.
A devoted family man, Sean was married for 25 years to his wife, Katie McDonald. Together they built a home anchored in love and loyalty, and his legacy lives on through the family he cherished.
Sean is survived by his wife, Katie McDonald; sons, Timothy McDonald (Kylie) and Nicholas McDonald (Alizeyah); daughters, Grace Doughten (Matt) and Kaylee McDonald (fiancé Josh Williams); Beloved Pop Pop to his grandchildren, Magnolia Rae, Rilan Grace, Emily Rayne, Esme Elizabeth, and Brinley Rose; mother, Ann McDonald of Asheboro; sisters, Debra McDonald, Pattie Kearns, Heather McDonald, and Cheryle Sims of Florida; brothers, James McDonald (Jane) of Wilmington, Chris McDonald of Denton, Phillip McDonald of South Carolina, and Michael McDonald (Melissa); and special friends Lane Haynes (Brenda) and Sylvia Ellison. Sean is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as his pets, Mercy, Rascal, Rosie, Leia and Ivy.
He was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles to include Yates Anna Solano.
Outside of work and home, Sean found real joy in the simple, good things—the thrill of being a devoted NASCAR fan and time on the water as an avid fisherman. He wasn’t just someone who liked to fish; he was the kind of fisherman who showed up, put in the time, and often won fishing tournaments at Oak Hollow Lake on Thursday nights—quiet proof of his steady focus and love for the sport.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30am on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson St, High Point, NC 27265 with Fr. Patrick O'Connor, O. S. F. S., officiating. A private inurnment will follow the funeral mass.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
