Born Agathe on December 22, 1936, in Vrbas, Yugoslavia to the late Adam and Elisabeth (Gabel) Dorth. Agathe had a idyllic early life in Vrbas. That changed at the end of WWII when Agathe and her two brothers were separated from their mother and interned in Jarek. After almost a year they were reunited and in 1947 escaped and headed to Germany. Later they were reunited with their father whom they had not seen in about seven years. Together the Dorth family immigrated to the US and after a short stay in Ohio came to Chicago.
Agatha (Aggie) attended and graduated from Farragut High School. Shortly afterwards she met Rudy Prochaska, the love of her life. They were married on March 16, 1957. Rudy and Aggie welcomed three children- Mark, Lisa and Laura.
In her early forties, Aggie went back to school to become a nurse. She was very proud of her accomplishments and dedicated most of her professional life as a nurse at Northwest Community Hospital, where she provided care and comfort to countless patients. She retired from nursing in her seventies.
Beyond her career, Aggie found joy and fulfillment in her numerous interests and activities. She was an engaging grandma and spent a lot of time with her children and grandchildren. Aggie was a proud and active member of the Arlington Heights Garden Club and the Arlington Heights Nurses Club. Her involvement extended further within the community at Luther Village, where she was very active in various clubs and activities and served on the Luther Village board for many years. Aggie tried to learn something new every day.
Aggie was preceded in death by her husband Rudy, son Mark, grandson Damian, and brother Helmuth.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Mike) Dutton, Laura Capes and daughter-in-law Shawna; grandchildren, Adam, Drew, Charlie, Jack, Ron, Tristan, and Michele; sibling, Gunther Dorth; niece and nephews.
Services for Aggie will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 10 at Glueckert Funeral Home 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. Entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday, September 9.
