

Alan F. Bombick, 61 of Arlington Heights was born February 4, 1955 in Oak Park to the late Frank and Sylvia (nee Simak) Bombick and passed away June 20, 2016. Alan attended Brook Park Elementary School, S.E. Gross Middle School and graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Alan was employed by the architectural firms of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago and London, and Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura in Spain before joining Legat Architects in the early nineties. As Principal & Director of Commercial/Mixed-Use Practice with Legat, he achieved award winning domestic and international projects. Alan was a member of The American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, and the Lambda Alpha International Land Economics Society to name a few. He served the Village of Arlington Heights as a Design Commissioner since 1995. He looked forward to his role as juror to design student reviews at the U of I for many semesters, always placing the highest value on young people and education. Alan was a devoted husband and father, participating in the Indian Princesses and Indian Guides Programs with Lauren and Michael respectively. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts through Southminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Assistant Scoutmaster, guiding son Michael and many others to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He and his family traveled whenever possible; LONG road trips were his favorite; out west to Colorado, especially Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as Wyoming, Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park and New Mexico. Many summers included a vacation to Boston for the purpose of sightseeing and the opportunity to further his graduate studies at Harvard. His outdoor pursuits included hiking, climbing, camping, and a vegetable garden; garage pursuits of any and all things BMW related, and indoor pursuits of designing, building, and fixing anything broken. His memory is a blessing to each of us who knew and loved him… Alan was the beloved husband of Dianne L. (nee Blom); loving father of Lauren (C.J. Peterson) Bombick and Michael (Zaneta Slys) Bombick; cherished grandfather of Johnathan and Logan; dear son-in-law of Mary (late Wesley) Blom and fond brother-in-law of Robert (Carolyn) Blom and the late Michael Blom and Jack Blom. Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 3-8 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights where funeral service will be held Friday, June 24 at 11:00 AM. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alan F. Bombick Memorial Fund (to establish a scholarship fund for University of Illinois architecture student) c/o Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home appreciated.
