Born on February 6, 1936, in Salem, Massachusetts, Al was the son of the late Kazimierz and Kazimiera (née Szczechowicz) Kozakiewicz. He was a man of deep faith, great intelligence, and unwavering devotion to his family. Al began his college studies at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN, and later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University.
A proud veteran, Al served honorably in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard. He began his professional career in the early days of computer science, starting his career with UNIVAC. From 1963 to 1977, he worked as a computer analyst for the Chicago Sun-Times, later joining ARCO Oil Company. In 1981, he found his professional home with Northrop Grumman, where he served as a Disaster Recovery Specialist until his retirement in 1998. That same year, he and his beloved wife, Vivian, made Bonita Springs their home.
Al’s life was marked by curiosity, discipline, and a zest for the outdoors. A former Boy Scout turned Scoutmaster, he found joy in guiding and mentoring youth. He loved traveling the world with Vivian, relishing the adventure and always celebrating his birthday with a favorite—Maine lobster.
An avid golfer, Al’s accomplishments on the golf course were nothing short of remarkable. He achieved an astonishing seven hole-in-ones during his lifetime, three of them within a three-week span at Spanish Wells Country Club, where he was a familiar and admired presence. He was also a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and most recently St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples.
Al was also a devoted sports fan, cheering for the Chicago Bears, the Boston Red Sox, the Celtics, and the Bruins. He found special joy in organizing the biannual "Kozak Open" golf tournament, which brought his family together in laughter and friendly competition.
Above all, Al was a deeply spiritual man and a devout Catholic. His greatest joy was caring for his beloved wife of 65 years, Vivian M. Kozak, and spoiling her with love and attention. His commitment to faith, family, and tradition left a legacy that will continue through generations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian; their three children Marilyn Folster (Peter) of Naperville, IL, Paul A. Kozak (Susan) of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Gail V. Lillis (Jimbo) of Buffalo Grove, IL; and grandchildren Carlton Folster (Ruthie) and Casimira Folster, Max, Nick, and Jake Kozak, Katie Seaman (Rob), and Sarah and Megan Lillis.
He was preceded in death by his son, Albert E. Kozak, in 2017, and his brother, Richard Kozak.
Memorial visitation for Al will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights, IL. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Edna Catholic Church, 2525 N.
